Small Changes = Big Impact
Relatively small losses in weight can make significant increases in health and reduce the risk of developing health problems later in life. Our Trainer of the Week, Simon Kidd, takes us through the small changes that can lead to drastic inprovements...
We all know someone who is doing another diet. Wouldn’t it be nice if the changes you made could become permanent?
The key here is to look at what happens in your daily life and decide to live healthily. It’s your body and it has to last a long time. This is all about making choices. Compare how much effort might be spent on hair, make-up and clothes with looking after your body itself.
Here are some ways you can make those changes today!
- When faced with a menu choose a healthy option. Your body works much better on good food.
- Walk journeys under a mile. It’s better for the environment too.
- If the route to work involves passing the cake shop – choose another route.
- Do something active during the TV adverts eg step ups for 2 minutes on the bottom stair, or try the Facebook challenge.
- Drink a glass of water every hour in the office.
- For a snack choose dried fruit or nuts.
- Avoid starchy and sugary foods after 6pm.
- Raise your heart rate for half an hour three times per week.
- Put those activity sessions in the diary like an important meeting – it is!
- Do an activity with a friend once a week.
How we react to peer and media pressure is also an important factor in your success.
- Recognise that we are being constantly bombarded with media messages to eat more food and sweets. We don’t have to respond to those. If you like a challenge – see if you can find the most ridiculous advert linking pleasure with food and sweets.
- Be confident in your choices. Don’t be put off by other people’s poor choices.
Take care and have fun!
